The show, set in the Oregon Territory during the 1850s, has continued filming despite Sutter's exit, as production moves forward under new leadership. The split comes after ongoing creative differences between Sutter and Netflix, which ultimately led to the decision for the two to part ways. The Show Must Go On: Production Continues on The Abandons Although Sutter, who both created The Abandons and served as its showrunner, has left the project, the show remains in production with just a few weeks of filming left. The Abandons is currently shooting in Calgary, Alberta, and executive producer Otto Bathurst, along with co-executive producer Rob Askins, will be overseeing the remainder of the production.
