Tom from Myspace: Where Is He Now?

Everyone's First Social Media Friend Is Still Around.

Tom Anderson, also known as "Tom from Myspace," was one of the pioneers of social media, launching Myspace back in 2003, well before the days of Facebook and Twitter. As one of the first platforms of its kind, Myspace quickly became a cultural phenomenon, reaching its peak as the seventh most visited website globally in 2005.

Despite its success, Anderson sold Myspace to News Corporation for $580 million. He remained as president for a few years but retired in 2009 following a shift in ownership. This retirement coincided with Facebook's rise to dominance, marking a turning point for Myspace. Eventually, News Corporation sold Myspace at a significant loss for just $35 million in 2011.

So what became of Anderson after his departure from the social media scene? It appears he turned his focus towards personal interests and investments, particularly in real estate and travel. Anderson embraced his passion for photography, traveling the world and capturing moments through the lens of his camera.

Despite stepping away from the forefront of social media, Anderson didn't leave the industry entirely. He served as an advisor for a company that developed a Facebook app and maintains an active presence on various platforms, including Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter).

While he may no longer have the 250 million Myspace friends, Anderson's impact on social media and its users has not been forgotten. Comments from nostalgic users on platforms like TikTok reflect a fondness for Myspace's heyday, noting how it introduced many to coding through HTML and personalized webpage design.

As for Anderson, he seems content with his post-Myspace life, a journey that many say they would emulate if they had the resources. From a social media mogul to a world traveler and photographer, Tom from Myspace has seemingly found a fulfilling path post-fame.
