"Cliffhanger" Sequel Set To Begin Filming: Sylvester Stallone Returns For Thrilling New Chapter

Stallone's Gabe Walker Faces New Perils In The Dolomites In This Highly Anticipated Sequel

After more than three decades, Sylvester Stallone is returning to the big screen as Gabriel 'Gabe' Walker in the sequel to the 1993 action thriller Cliffhanger. TriStar Pictures has officially announced that filming for the highly anticipated sequel will commence in early fall, with production expected to begin in September or October of 2024.

The original Cliffhanger film, directed by Renny Harlin, became one of the most successful movies of Stallone's career, grossing $255 million worldwide. Fans of the original are eager to see Stallone, now 78 years old, reprise his role as the rugged mountain climber turned hero.

In this new chapter, Gabe Walker has retreated from his former life, finding peace in the Dolomites where he runs an exclusive mountain lodge. However, his tranquil life is upended when he and a high-profile client are taken hostage during an adventurous weekend trip. With the stakes higher than ever, it is up to Gabe's daughter to use her climbing skills and quick thinking to outmaneuver the kidnappers in a tense battle for survival.

Mark Bianculli, known for his work on The Good Neighbor and Hunters, has crafted a script that promises to deliver the same edge-of-your-seat excitement that made the original Cliffhanger a classic. Instead of original director Renny Harlin, Jean-François Richet, famed for his work on Mesrine, will take the helm of this new project, bringing a fresh perspective to the beloved franchise.

The production has garnered significant support, including major funding from the Austrian film commission. This backing will help bring the breathtaking and treacherous landscapes of the Dolomites to life on screen, providing a stunning backdrop for the high-stakes drama to unfold.

Behind the scenes, an experienced team of producers, including Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Jaffe, Philipp Kreuzer, and Joe Neurauter, are working tirelessly to ensure that this sequel lives up to the legacy of the original film. With such a strong foundation in place, the Cliffhanger sequel is poised to become another major hit in Stallone's illustrious career.

As filming gears up, anticipation is building among fans and critics alike. Will this sequel capture the same thrilling spirit as the original, or perhaps even surpass it? With a star-studded cast, a gripping story, and the breathtaking scenery of the Dolomites, this sequel promises to be a must-see for action movie enthusiasts.

Stay tuned for more updates as production continues on what is sure to be one of the most talked-about films of the year.
