Thor’s Tears in “Deadpool & Wolverine”: What Do They Mean For The MCU?

This summer’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine left audiences roaring with laughter and buzzing with questions. Among its many references and Easter eggs, one scene has sparked endless fan theories: Chris Hemsworth’s Thor shedding tears while holding a gravely injured Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) in his arms. This scene, which reused footage from Thor: The Dark World, is as mysterious as it is emotional, fueling speculation about its connection to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The Scene That Launched a Thousand Questions

Recycled from Thor: The Dark World, the brief clip appears out of context in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, the emotional weight of seeing Thor visibly upset over Deadpool has ignited fan theories suggesting that this could foreshadow a future MCU event. Could this moment be a glimpse into an upcoming Avengers film? Does it hint at a crossover storyline between Deadpool and the MCU’s mightiest heroes?

Ryan Reynolds, in a recent interview with Variety, addressed the scene directly, confirming that fans will eventually understand its significance.

Reynolds’ Promise: Answers Will Come

When asked about Thor’s tears, Reynolds assured fans that the mystery would be resolved, though not immediately. “I can actually say you will find out why Thor was crying,” he revealed. Reynolds added that this moment was intentionally crafted to stir curiosity:

“We were the ones who brought the Thor crying thing into the zeitgeist. It’s up to us, and I’m saying this in a very butt-clenching, scared way, to answer that question in the most full-throated way possible.”

Although fans are eager for answers, Reynolds’ comments suggest that this storyline may be part of a long game, possibly unfolding across multiple projects in the MCU’s interconnected narrative.

The Future of Deadpool

While Deadpool & Wolverine is already a critical and streaming success, Reynolds made it clear in an interview with ExtraTV that a fourth Deadpool installment is not in active development. He emphasized the importance of pacing and balancing his personal life with the demands of playing the wise-cracking anti-hero:

“There’s a reason it’s been six years since the last one. It just sort of swallows my life whole, and I, you know, have four kids that I wouldn’t mind introducing myself to at some point.”

Despite this, Reynolds’ confirmation that the mystery of Thor’s tears will be addressed hints at further collaborations with Marvel, whether in standalone films or crossover events.

What’s Next for Thor and Deadpool in the MCU?

With Deadpool’s introduction to the MCU already underway and the multiverse saga offering endless possibilities, the door is wide open for future collaborations between Thor, Deadpool, and other beloved characters. The emotional weight of the Thor crying scene suggests that it could play a significant role in shaping upcoming narratives, whether in Avengers films or standalone projects.

While you wait for more answers, you can revisit Deadpool & Wolverine now streaming on Disney+, and join the millions of fans dissecting every moment for clues about the future of the MCU.
