Arvind Jain’s Glean: Revolutionizing Workplace Efficiency With AI

How Arvind Jain is Making Jobs Easier with Glean

What’s next after creating a billion-dollar startup? For Rubrik co-founder Arvind Jain, the answer was simple: start another groundbreaking company. Jain co-founded Glean, an innovative enterprise software company, in 2019 to help businesses streamline HR processes with AI technology. Glean acts as an internal search engine for companies, allowing employees to quickly find answers to HR-related questions, from PTO balances to company holidays. Essentially, it’s ChatGPT for the workplace.

Filling a Market Gap with Glean

Jain launched Glean after identifying a significant gap in the market. He noticed that existing solutions didn’t adequately address the seamless integration of HR issue resolution within enterprises. When Jain spoke to us about the early days of Glean, he highlighted the initial challenges in securing funding. Back in 2019, the market for such enterprise software was underdeveloped, and investors viewed the venture as risky.

However, Glean’s potential quickly became evident. Today, the company boasts a valuation of over $2.2 billion and has secured more than $200 million in venture capital. This remarkable growth underscores the demand for efficient and effective AI solutions in the corporate world.

The Role of AI in Glean’s Success

Jain attributes much of Glean’s success to advancements in artificial intelligence. He discussed how AI has evolved over the years, enhancing the company’s ability to provide accurate answers to complex HR questions. Jain pointed out that, although few were familiar with Large Language Models (LLMs) a few years ago, Glean was an early adopter of this technology. This foresight allowed the company to integrate vector search and embeddings into its product, setting it apart from competitors.

“We were the first company to actually build vector search and embeddings and these other terms you hear these days in the AI world,” Jain explained. This innovative approach has been crucial in establishing Glean as a leader in the enterprise software space.

Prioritizing Cybersecurity in AI Development

Given Jain’s background with Rubrik, a cybersecurity company, it’s no surprise that he places a strong emphasis on data security. Jain believes that cybersecurity is a fundamental component of AI product development. “Cybersecurity is actually one of the key pillars,” he said. “When you think about AI, you have to think about security first before you think about rolling out AI inside a company.” This focus on security ensures that Glean’s clients can trust the platform with their sensitive information.

Leadership and Future Aspirations

Jain also shared insights into his leadership style, describing himself as a hands-off leader who trusts his employees to excel in their roles. He hires passionate individuals and calls himself a product-obsessed founder. Transitioning from head of research and development at Rubrik to CEO at Glean has been a learning experience for Jain, but he is confident in his team’s capabilities.

Looking ahead, Jain hopes that Glean will transform workplace efficiency and become a generational company that eventually goes public. For Jain, this would mark another significant milestone in his entrepreneurial journey.

Conclusion

Arvind Jain’s journey from Rubrik to Glean highlights his ability to identify market needs and leverage cutting-edge technology to meet them. By focusing on AI and cybersecurity, Jain has created a product that simplifies HR processes and enhances workplace efficiency. As Glean continues to grow, it stands as a testament to Jain’s vision and innovation in the enterprise software industry.
