Viral Gen Z Influencer Larz Explains Why He Shuns His Family For Lack Of Followers

"They're Irrelevant," Larz Tells Dr. Phil In Controversial Interview

In the age of social media stardom, followers are often seen as a measure of success and relevance. For Larz, a Gen Z influencer with over 300,000 Instagram followers, this metric is not just a status symbol but a criterion for interpersonal relationships, including those with his own family. Larz made headlines for his viral antics, including recording himself licking a toilet, but it was his comments on the Dr. Phil show that recently reignited the internet's ire.

The video, originally from an interview in 2022, resurfaced on social media platform X, posted by @PicturesFoIder. It quickly amassed over 8.7 million views within 24 hours, with users expressing shock and disbelief at Larz's unapologetic stance on family irrelevance based on their social media presence.

"I Don't Talk to My Family, They're Irrelevant"

In the viral clip, Larz sat across from Dr. Phil and boldly declared, "I don't talk to my family, they're irrelevant." His nonchalant dismissal of his relatives spurred a wave of critical comments from viewers. Remarks such as, "If he's so famous, why don't I know who he is?" and "The real pandemic is narcissism," highlighted the public's dismay. Another user sarcastically noted, "We had a good run as a species."

The Dr. Phil episode showcased a particularly contentious moment when Larz insisted that people were upset because they "aren't relevant either" and thus couldn't understand his perspective. Dr. Phil countered with a thought-provoking observation: "You know what I found? The bigger the star, the smaller the ego."

Shunning Family for Fame

Larz's disdain for his family's lack of followers is not a new revelation. In a 2022 appearance on the Australian radio show, Kyle and Jackie O Show, he reiterated his stance. When asked by co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson if he still communicated with his family, Larz bluntly responded, “Of course not. I stopped talking to them so long ago, it’s actually embarrassing that people would think I still talk to them.”

Larz claimed to engage with high-profile personalities instead, including rapper Cardi B, whom he purportedly met on Twitter in 2015. “I talk to Cardi B over Instagram DM. We met on Twitter in 2015 and ever since have talked fluently,” he stated. This preference for celebrity interaction underscores his belief that social media clout supersedes familial bonds.

A Digital Divide in the Family

Larz, who hails from a large family with five brothers and four sisters, admitted to blocking them on all social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. His ultimatum is clear: he will only reconnect with them if they achieve a follower count comparable to his own.

On Dr. Phil, Larz elaborated on this criterion. “They’re irrelevant, none of them have followers. If they have followers or got rich, I’d probably talk to them again,” he said, leaving Dr. Phil visibly puzzled. When pressed further, Larz confirmed that this standard even applied to his mother. “If they had followers, they would be here right now,” he asserted.

Social Media Presence Under Scrutiny

Despite Larz's emphasis on social media relevance, his own presence on these platforms appears sporadic at best. His last Instagram post dates back to 2018, and his TikTok account has since been removed. This inconsistency raises questions about the sustainability and authenticity of his online persona.

The Bigger Picture

Larz's controversial statements reflect a growing trend among younger generations where social media influence often outweighs traditional values. While his views may seem extreme, they highlight a broader societal shift towards digital validation and the complexities it brings to personal relationships.

In a world increasingly dominated by social media metrics, Larz's story serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when online popularity trumps genuine human connection. As the debate rages on, one thing remains clear: the pursuit of followers can sometimes come at the cost of family.
